Queen Wasp Checking Me Out

This is the second nest I have found around town in the last couple weeks. I have noticed that when I get close the queen wasp wakes up and starts to flare her wings at me. If I move a little to the left or right she moves. The closest I got was two feet, and felt I was seconds away from a sting so I backed off. If you look really close at the top left chamber you will see an egg she laid.
